However, not all new players are happy with their latest purchase. On Steam, The Crew 2 has an overall rating of 81% positive reviews, but only 42% for recent reviews. The reason for this, however, has less to do with the game itself.

Negative Reviews Due to the Original The Crew
Why are players rating the game so poorly? The reason for the good sale and the reason for the new, negative reviews are connected. Since April 1, 2024, the original The Crew no longer works. After about 10 years, Ubisoft has pulled the plug.
Even those who have the game on CD can no longer play it. The reason for this is the lack of an offline mode. The game can only be played online and since there are no more servers, the engines remain silent. Those who owned the game online lost their license to play it.
While The Crew 2’s price of just one euro is officially not related to the shutdown of the servers, it coincides with the announcement of an offline mode for The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest, the latest installment in the racing series.
Fans perceive the sale as a sort of apology from Ubisoft for shutting down The Crew. This is also reflected in the reviews on Steam. Many former “The Crew” players express their dissatisfaction there.

AxelleMeow writes on Steam: “Stop destroying video games […]” and urges European citizens to sign a petition (via citizens-initiative.europa.eu) that aims to prohibit the deletion of games.
TaiNOPE writes in his Steam review: “[…] After they said we should ‘feel comfortable not owning our games’, they just pulled the plug on The Crew 1 and removed the game from everyone’s library without a refund, because they didn’t want to develop an offline mode for it. That was the last drop of trust they had.[…]”
Jan88666 also warns on Steam about the game: “Ubisoft! So be careful, servers are turned off here without warning, save your money! Never again Ubisoft!”
The Crew 2 was released in 2018 and is already 6 years old.
