You find 2,300 euros too expensive for a graphics card, but you still want to play smoothly in the coming years? MeinMMO has some recommendations that are also worth considering for gaming, but do not cost 2,000 euros.
Buying a graphics card is an important step if you want to build or upgrade a gaming PC. However, the high prices of the RTX 5000 series deter many players from upgrading. Nevertheless, there are currently enough graphics cards available that also provide sufficient performance, especially if it doesn’t necessarily have to be the most expensive, best, and fastest graphics card on the market.
In general, you should be aware that there are differences depending on who you buy a graphics card from. The main differences between AMD and Nvidia are presented to you on MeinMMO in a separate article.
RTX 4070 Super – Graphics card for WQHD at the level of the RTX 3080
If you don’t want to spend 2,000 euros on a graphics card from the RTX 5000 series, then the RTX 4070 Super is a very good alternative. You get a good graphics card with all modern features, including Frame Generation.
The price ranges between 600 and 700 euros and fluctuates depending on the offer. With 12 GB of video memory, the model is more future-proof than many other graphics cards. Graphics cards with 8 GB or less memory are no longer considered future-proof.
RX 7800 XT: Mid-range for WQHD
A bit slower than the RTX 4070 Super, but 200 euros cheaper. With the RX 7800 XT, you get the currently best mid-range graphics card if you have to keep an eye on your budget. The performance is more than sufficient for WQHD with many details, but AMD is not as good as Nvidia in the same range when it comes to FSR and ray tracing.
Currently, you can get the graphics card for amounts between 450 and 500 euros, and there are already offers for around 400 euros. With 16 GB of video memory, you also won’t have to worry for the next few years and you are better positioned at this price level than with a comparable Nvidia graphics card.
Intel Arc B580: Very good card for Full HD, with a lot of potential for improvement
The Arc B580 from Intel was only introduced on December 13 and is thus the newest graphics card on our list. With this graphics card, you get good performance for Full HD.
In general, you get a lot of performance for around 300 euros, but you should keep in mind that Intel is still struggling with software issues. The idle consumption is also very high compared to competitors. However, it is more than certain that Intel will significantly improve its software.
On average, you pay around 300 euros for the Intel Arc B580. With 12 GB of video memory, the GPU is also sufficiently equipped for the future. If you can overlook the problems, then you get a good graphics card for Full HD with Intel’s Arc 580.
Radeon RX 7900 GRE – AMD’s third-best graphics card for under 700 euros for WQHD
If you’re looking for the card with the best value for money for WQHD and light 4K gaming, then the RX 7900 GRE is the best choice: the graphics card currently costs around 600 euros and offers you 16 GB of video memory, which provides sufficient buffer for the coming years.
Theoretically, there is still a slightly faster option with the Radeon RX 7900 XT, which “only” costs 100 euros more. For that, you get 20 GB of video memory and more performance if 4K is an option. Especially for ray tracing, you’ll have to make some compromises. The somewhat more expensive RTX 4070 (Super) is almost 40% ahead of the RX 7900 GRE in ray tracing, according to PCGamesHardware.de.
RX 7900 XTX: Best alternative for 4K gaming under 1,000 euros
AMD’s only fully-featured and best alternative is the RX 7900 XTX. At least if you don’t want to spend more than 1,000 euros on a 4K graphics card. The graphics card offers you full 4K performance or high FPS numbers in WQHD and costs around 900 euros.
However, if you primarily want to focus on WQHD (1440p), then the extra cost is definitely not worth it for you. You could save around 200 euros.
In general, you should keep in mind: If you want the best ray tracing performance and DLSS 4.0, then you can’t go past Nvidia’s RTX 4080.
RTX 4080: Nvidia’s best alternative with current features and under 2,000 euros
If you absolutely want Nvidia, the best features, excellent ray tracing performance, and preferably for 4K? Then the RTX 4080 is currently the best choice. However, you also have to pay at least 1,200 euros for it. Since the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 are currently constantly sold out, prices for the RTX 4080 are also rising.
With 16 GB of video memory, Nvidia has unusually not skimped and has equipped its graphics card with enough VRAM for the future. At that time, the RTX 3080 faced criticism for only being equipped with 10 GB of VRAM.
