Rank 1: Sun Crusher
The Sun Crusher is an extremely powerful weapon that possesses the ability of the Death Star but in an even more terrible form. The weapon is hardly larger than a conventional starfighter and resembles an upside-down pyramid (see an image in the Wookiepedia). It was constructed in the Maw Research Facility of the Empire, established by Grand Moff Tarkin – but the weapon was only completed after his death in Episode 4.
Unlike the Death Star, the Sun Crusher has the ability to destroy not just a single planet or star, but an entire star system. The cannons and laser beam of the weapon cause a supernova in a single star, which also annihilates the rest of the system.
Smaller opponents, such as enemy fighters, can be easily fought off with the gun turrets mounted on the upper side, and a tractor beam projector even allows it to draw in other spaceships. Thanks to light speed, the Sun Crusher can also appear and disappear quickly without warning.
Destroying it is difficult. The problem: The surface of the weapon is equipped with quantum crystal armor. Shooting lasers at it is pointless. In the end, the weapon was destroyed when Jedi Kyp Durron, who belonged to Luke Skywalker’s new Jedi Order, maneuvered the Sun Crusher into a black hole – of course from a distance with autopilot to avoid being killed. The weapon first appeared in the novel “Into the Void” from 1994.
