On July 9, the new MMORPG Swords of Legends Online (SOLO) was released. We at MeinMMO were able to play the Alpha and Beta and have compiled information and tips on leveling.
How does leveling work? Leveling in Swords of Legends is very linear:
- You follow a main story that gradually leads you through the various areas where you can find side quests and further tasks suitable for your level.
- In between, there are individual phases where you need to do a bit of grinding because your story quest only continues after reaching a certain level.
- However, the story and quests are identical for each of the six classes, with the exception of some special training quests in specially designed areas for each class. Aside from that, there is only one area per level range where you can be active.
What is the max level? SOLO uses an interesting system where you first need to reach level “Scholar 36” and then complete an advancement quest. After that, you have reached the current maximum level “Student 1”.
In China, there was already an expansion that allows you to reach “Student 36” and then you get another advancement quest that takes you to a new level, which will probably be translated as something like “Master 1”.
How long does it take to reach max level? In the Alpha, we at MeinMMO needed about 16 hours of gameplay to reach Student 1. Depending on how closely you read quest texts and follow the story, leveling will take between 10 and 25 hours.
To reach the maximum level as quickly as possible, we provide you with some tips in this article.
Always complete all quests you can find
Why should you complete all quests? Besides the main quest that guides you through all areas, there are also side quests in each area and starting from a certain level, daily tasks (marked with a green question mark on the map).
You should pay attention to accepting and completing as many quests as possible while leveling. Because during the leveling process, it can happen that you lack a few experience points to continue the main story.
Then you will be frustrated that you didn’t complete the low-level quests beforehand.
Between levels 35 and 36, it can also happen that even with all quests completed, you may still lack a few experience points. Then the next tip will help you.
Use bounties, dungeons, and other tricks to get through the grind
For some levels, you will inevitably have to break out of the classic rhythm of quests, as there are simply no new quests available for you to complete. For exactly these phases, we have 3 tips for you.
Complete dungeons: The easiest method to gather experience points is by completing the dungeon “Cool Path” on the “Practice” level. It is designed for players from level 22 and can be accessed in the “Weichuan Highlands” area.
You can bring NPC companions along in the interface under “Enter Instance” alongside other players. You start with one and get a second NPC along the way. With them, you can blitz through the dungeon.
While at level 23 the enemies still give XP, you will later gain a bit more than 10,000 experience points for completing the dungeon starting from level 32.
Defeat bounties: Another effective method to gather additional experience points is by daily completing bounties. You unlock the bounties through “Cultivation,” which we will go into in more detail later.
Bounties can be defeated starting from level 20, making them particularly suitable for grinding between levels 23 and 25. But you can still complete them easily later on.
Complete biographies: For those who enjoy stories and don’t want to rush to max level, they can use the biographies for leveling. These are special story quests that tell many background stories.
For their completion, there are relatively few experience points, but you will learn more about the game world.
Pay attention to cultivation
What is cultivation? Cultivation is a kind of tutorial for the various contents of the game. Through this interface, you receive tutorials on:
- dungeons
- interface content like friend lists or alliances
- life skills like bounty hunting, the Emerald Lantern, or fishing
- biographies
- PvP, mini games, and housing
Cultivations are essential to learn the various contents. Additionally, you must complete them initially in a fixed order, while later on, weekly events are added, and several tasks can be completed in parallel.
For each completed cultivation, you also receive rewards that you can collect in the respective interface:

Use your companions
In SOLO, there is a companion system that allows you to summon NPC helpers to your side. This works especially well in practice dungeons, through which, as mentioned in the tip above, you can level up quickly, but they also assist you in the open world.
In the leveling areas, you can summon them by using the “Summon” ability. This is found above your right action bar. There, you can select a companion and then press “Start Attack”. This will have them follow you in the open world and attack the same targets you are fighting.
To rise to Student 1, you need to fill the XP bar again
To reach the max level Student 1, you must fill your XP bar completely at level 36 to get the advancement quest. Again, you will have to resort to the various grind methods once you have completed the story quest at level 35.
Here too, the “Cool Wind” dungeon is recommended again, as there is no new dungeon available between level 22 and Student 1.
Bonus tip: You need max level for most content in the game
Why is leveling so important? The leveling phase in Swords of Legends Online is almost comparable to a huge tutorial. Most cool contents are only available at Student 1, including:
- The difficulties normal, hard, and extreme in the dungeons of SOLO
- All PvP content including arenas and battles in the open world
- Housing
- Many of the mini games that SOLO offers
- New endgame areas and the finale of the current story
While we do not recommend rushing completely through the leveling process, the MMORPG will definitely become more exciting once you have reached the highest level. This should be feasible for some during the beta.
