Lawrence Barrett – Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Bosses in Deus Ex: Human Revolution are clearly a weak point of the game, and Lawrence Barrett epitomizes the problem these enemies bring. Those familiar with Deus Ex know: this is primarily a stealth game. While you can theoretically shoot your way through, it is clearly the inferior and more challenging option.
With Lawrence Barrett, the game presents a kind of Rambo that contradicts the design principle of the rest of the game. He fits none at all with the stealth approach of the RPG and forces the player to go in brutally. While in most level sections you have a multitude of decision-making options, here only one way is possible.
This is extremely annoying and feels like a foreign body. In fact, the bosses were not created by the developer Eidos Montreal, but externally by the studio GRIP (via gamestar.de). Therefore, the core principle of Deus Ex was sidelined, resulting in a deeply frustrating and simply annoying opponent who, unfortunately, is not an exception in the game.
