Tiger & Bunny
- Release: 2011 to 2014
- Rating on MyAnimeList: 7.28/10
What is it about? Due to an unknown mutation, people with supernatural superpowers suddenly appear in the city of Stern Bild. Some of them become villains, who are then fought by self-proclaimed heroes. However, the heroes are not only occupied with battling criminals.
The heroes appear in a show called HERO TV to attract sponsors and compete against each other. The sponsor of hero Kotetsu “Tiger” Kaburagi is bought out due to his incompetence, which forces him to team up with the vain amateur hero Barnaby “Bunny” Brooks Jr.
Who is the manga suitable for? The uniqueness of Tiger & Bunny is the dynamic duo. The two heroes couldn’t be more different: one charges in recklessly, while the other analyzes every situation first. It’s exciting to see how the two heroes get along and grow together over time.
Additionally, the commercialization of superheroism is a theme here. The heroes are not only busy with maintaining peace, but also with their rankings and popularity. So, anyone who isn’t wearing rose-tinted glasses regarding superheroes might find satisfaction in this.
Kamen Rider
- Release: 1971
- Rating on MyAnimeList: 6.9/10
What is it about? In Kamen Rider, we experience the adventures of Takeshi Hongo. He must face cyborgs created by a terrorist organization called Shocker. These are small versions of well-known kaiju like Mothra or Godzilla. The organization itself was founded by a Nazi.
The insidious part: The monsters are created from kidnapped victims who are brainwashed. Takeshi Hongo was one of those kidnapped victims but managed to escape before the final brainwashing. He now possesses the powers of a grasshopper and fights the minions of Shocker.
Who is the manga suitable for? Kamen Rider originally started as a TV series and only later received a manga. It is one of the older superhero franchises from Japan. So, if you need a nostalgia kick and enjoy old-school superhero stories, Kamen Rider will serve you well.
My Hero Academia is not quite over yet. The anime is getting another movie, which will likely come to Germany as well:
As you can see, there are plenty of alternatives to explore other superhero stories after the end of My Hero Academia. The mangaka of One Piece is also likely affected by My Hero Academia coming to an end. He has a friendly relationship with the author of the superhero manga: The author of One Piece honors the end of another manga by dedicating a cover to it
