Persona 5 Royal
Persona 5 is a classic JRPG with a strong anime aesthetic – no wonder, as some of the cutscenes are simply anime scenes. Accordingly, the characters are more exaggerated and everything is a bit more theatrical than in Expedition 33.
But it’s in the fights that the parallels become apparent. Whether it’s the menus, the abilities, or the visual design – everything just “feels” right, and you quickly find yourself in a similar flow as you were in Expedition 33.
Even though the soundtrack of Persona 5 goes in a very different direction than that of Expedition 33, it is of similar quality. Especially in fights, a similar feeling of “flow” arises, and you often find yourself lightly bobbing your head to the beat of the battle music.
However, Persona 5 has its lengths – lengths that were absent in Expedition 33. Dialogues between characters can become lengthy and it can take an entire hour between combat sequences, during which you are just dealing with story and characters. If you enjoy that, you’ll find a great RPG in Persona 5 – others might rather steer clear of it.
