Dreadnought
If you love tactical action games like World of Tanks or World of Warships, but the Second World War is too much for you, and you would prefer to steer hefty spaceships through space rather than the Bismarck through the North Sea, then Dreadnought is the right game for you.
Dreadnought – Spaceship Ahoy!
Dreadnought plays similarly to Wargaming’s World of Warships, but as a spaceship captain, you have three dimensions at your disposal. Your ship can also dynamically change its height. Thus, the gameplay principle is a bit like World of Tanks, where tactically clever positioning also plays an important role.
However, the similarities end here, as Dreadnought offers more than just a Wargaming clone in a sci-fi look. The ships move quickly, but depending on their size, maneuverability is noticeable. Additionally, each ship has a number of cool additional actions, such as torpedoes, long-range missiles, cloaking devices, or defense systems.
Ship classes and tactical battles
Your skills depend – like the armament and gameplay – on your ship type. Sturdy dreadnoughts are tanks that endure and deal a lot of damage. Destroyers are similarly well-armed but faster and more agile. However, they can’t take much damage. Corvettes are ideal for reconnaissance, while tactical cruisers can repair their own ships. Lastly, there are artillery cruisers, which have a kind of sniper cannon and fire into the fray from a distance.
Depending on which ship you control, your tactics and skills will change. The artillery cruiser can only shine at a distance, while the dreadnought prefers to get close to make the best use of its heavy armament. If your chosen ship goes down, you can choose to re-enter the battle with a different ship type.
Also cool: With energy management, you can strengthen your shields in battle or fly faster by sacrificing shields. This adds even more tactics to the game.
Other platform, other game modes
Dreadnought is currently in open beta on PC and in the closed beta on PS4. The game modes Team Deathmatch and Team Elimination (where you only have one life and are then a small fighter) are available on both platforms. The PS4 version has recently added a PvE co-op mode called Havoc, in which you shoot wave after wave of AI enemies.
On PC, there is the Onslaught mode. In this mode, the PvP battles of players are garnished with randomly spawning AI ships. So it’s a PvPvE mode.
