Magic: The Gathering Arena
What is Magic: The Gathering Arena? This is a digital implementation of the collectible card game ancestor Magic: The Gathering. The game that later titles like Hearthstone and The Elder Scrolls Legends owe their existence to.
As usual in Magic, you collect cards from booster packs and duel other players. In the game, you summon creatures, effects, and artifacts to defeat your opponent.
What is special about Magic: The Gathering Arena?
Unlike previous incarnations of Magic in digital form, Magic: The Gathering Arena aims to authentically replicate the Magic experience as a video game. Earlier forms always deviated in gameplay, but now you get “the real” Magic.
This means you have a game that is somewhat slower and more complex than Hearthstone and the like. In Magic, you’ve always had to pay for your summons with mana, which you obtain from lands.
These lands, in turn, come in five different forms, each producing differently colored mana. If you have the wrong mana, you can’t cast spells.
This mechanic assumes a different deck construction and different tactics and leads to more complexity than, for example, Blizzard’s card game Hearthstone.
You unlock new cards in the game or buy them with real money in boosters.
Why should you play Magic: The Gathering Arena?
If you were there back in the 90s with Magic and have always wanted to experience your first collectible card game digitally, Arena should be right up your alley.
No game comes closer to the original Magic feel right now. So if you like collectible card games and aren’t afraid of added complexity, you should definitely check out Arena.
Especially since the new expansion “War of the Spark” was recently released, bringing new cards.
