2. Eric
The puppeteer Vincent Anderson appears to be a really nasty guy at first glance. He treats his colleagues poorly, and at home, he constantly argues with his wife. Vincent, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, spirals into a deep descent of drugs and alcohol after his young son goes missing as he tries to find him.
In its best moments, Eric reminds True Detective. The atmosphere is often dense, and the crime elements surrounding the detective work really well. The highlight of the series is undoubtedly Benedict Cumberbatch, who demonstrates his capabilities. Whether it’s anger or sorrow, every emotion feels genuine.
Even though Eric attempts to tackle too many themes, it is a successful series that shows Cumberbatch can do much more than just Dr. Strange. Especially the surreal moments set the series apart from its genre peers.
3. Baby Reindeer
Baby Reindeer is based on a true story that happened to comedian Richard Gadd. He even plays himself in the drama series. The series tells the story of Gadd, who meets a woman in a bar who ultimately becomes his stalker. From a strange beginning, a highly emotional series unfolds.
Baby Reindeer is frightening and probably scarier than any horror movie one could have watched in 2024. While Richard Gadd’s acting may not always hit the mark, in the dire scenes, it’s clear that this must have really happened to him.
The series deals with heavy topics of abuse, personal failure, and the desire to be loved. Those with difficulties regarding these issues should research the themes beforehand. However, if you engage with the series, it offers an intense experience that you won’t forget for a long time.
