The Elder Scrolls Online doesn’t believe in comic graphics. Fans of Skyrim and Co. would hardly accept an Elder Scrolls MMO if it looked like World of Warcraft, SWTOR or WildStar. Therefore, a dignified, realistic style had to be developed that seamlessly connects to Skyrim or Oblivion.
ESO – Realism Instead of Exaggeration
The graphical style of the world of ESO appears realistic and comprehensible. Instead of bright colors, muted tones prevail. Nothing seems flashy or intrusive. Rather, online Tamriel is a beautiful place full of wonders, but it doesn’t overwhelm our senses with effects.
Each region of the ESO world has its own style and charm. The neat island of Auridon with its elven architecture stands in stark contrast to the massive buildings of the orcs in Orsinium. The Gold Coast and the central province Cyrodiil are clearly inspired by the Roman Empire, and there is an oriental style in the desert.
The Elder Scrolls Online – The Animations are the Best!
However, ESO truly excels in animations. In no other game do you have as many emotes as in The Elder Scrolls Online. There are countless animations, from the usual gestures for eating, drinking, and waving to really exotic gestures.
For example, you can mimic a wild bull with “/Bullhorns.” Even more coherent are the so-called “Personalities.” These are animation sets that completely change your hero’s movement behavior.
If you choose the “Hero” personality, your character stands tall and strong. Just like a good role model! “Thieves,” on the other hand, crouch and seem shady. “Assassins” are grim fellows who convey with their body language: “I can gut you anytime, you victim!”
And the silly “Jester” waddles comically through the vegetation, making you nearly fall off your chair from laughing!
With the personalities, some existing emotes change. For example, an animation for harmless apple-eating becomes a truly terrifying sight as an assassin.
