MMORPGs are a lot of fun, but there are also some elements that can definitely be annoying. We present to you five trends that MMORPG fans – in our opinion – can be quite frustrating.
Probably everyone of you has reached a point where your favorite online game drives you crazy. There are certain features and trends that are not always fun, but can sometimes turn into work, or make you wonder if it really has to be like that. Even some design decisions in MMOs are questionable. Therefore, we present to you five things that can be annoying about MMORPGs.
5. Items become worthless through updates
It took a long time to finally get the gear you desired so much. But then a vacation is coming, and you are not in the game for a while. When you return, item degradation has begun. Because an update has been released that changed the stats of the gear or even introduced new items that are even better.
Then the cycle starts again. Grinding to get the new weapons and armor, hoping that these will “last” a little longer and not be replaced immediately by better items.
An example of this is Neverwinter (see video). Updates continuously introduce better gear, and some items are specifically designed for the game’s PvP. So anyone who has previously built a hero for PvP must now look for the new items to defend their place in player-versus-player battles.
Also in Diablo 3 this is a known “problem”. Handcrafted item sets are nerfed by an update and suddenly the previously powerful weapon deals significantly less damage. These changes are usually intended to maintain balance in the game; nonetheless, it is frustrating for many players.
