League of Legends is entering a new year and another season. In a dev update, the developers have already revealed what to expect – and Twitch streamer Tolkin is particularly excited.
What is the forgotten role in LoL? In a new YouTube video, Tolkin talked about some changes for the new season of League of Legends. When it came to adjustments for the various roles, the Twitch streamer mentioned that the top lane has received little love from the developers for the past 5 years.
Additionally, Tolkin mentions the frequent lane swaps during Worlds, which have already been drastically nerfed by the developers.
What is changing for the top lane in the first season of 2026? Generally, each role will receive a quest for the new season. This quest will unlock new buffs. In the case of the top lane, this buff grants an increased maximum level and generally more experience.
Furthermore, the top laner receives the summoner spell Teleport for free, allowing you to teleport to allied buildings or wards. If you has already equipped it manually, it will be enhanced with a large barrier when teleporting.
Tolkin is particularly excited about a new feature
What new feature excites Tolkin so much? Even before the developers of LoL spoke about the exact rewards for the role quest, Tolkin mentioned that he had been screaming for a free teleport for years. Just a few seconds later, his long-standing wish was fulfilled by the developers, and Tolkin was additionally surprised by the increased maximum level.
According to him, there was a meeting in which the additional experience was discussed. However, he knew nothing about the other changes. Accordingly, he was quite surprised.
Why has Tolkin wanted an additional teleport for years? The developers address the two roles of top lane and ADC, explaining that both roles are too weak. Tolkin agrees and believes it is due to their inability to roam across the map.
Roaming is a term used in MOBAs. It describes moving around the map to help your teammates and apply pressure on other lanes. With the new free teleport, the top laner can integrate more and better into the game in the future, Tolkin says.
Besides the many changes to League of Legends’ gameplay that will arrive in the Rift of Summoners with the new season in 2026, there is also a significant change in controls.
Recently, you can officially test the new WASD control in your matches. Players were afraid it would be too overpowered, but after initial tests, it feels quite poor for the ADC role: LoL players feared the new control would be overpowered, now they cheer: “It’s really bad for AD Carries”
