Soulslikes

Soulslike is a subgenre of action role-playing games, known for being incredibly challenging. The “You died” screen is virtually an essential component of the games. Battles are often sluggish, strategic, and require learning the enemy’s attack patterns.
Named after the well-known FromSoftware games, the pioneering concept is considered to be the 2009 release of Demon’s Souls. However, popularity was primarily gained by the “Dark Souls” trilogy, whose games are also referred to as Soulsgames.
However, FromSoftware was not the only representative of the genre. With “Lords of the Fallen,” a game with a similar concept, but from a different developer, was released shortly after Dark Souls II in 2014. Inspired by the “Soulsgames,” the term “Soulslike” became widely used and remains so to this day. Other well-known representatives include “Nioh,” “Salt and Sanctuary,” “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order & Survivor,” and “Code Vein.”
