The True Blood God: Hakkar the Soulflayer
When talking about a blood god in World of Warcraft today, everyone immediately thinks of the blood trolls and G’huun, the final boss from the Uldir raid. However, a tribe of trolls originally had a completely different blood god, namely Hakkar the Soulflayer.
Hakkar was the final boss of the Zul’Gurub raid in Classic and later reappeared in Cataclysm, where the troll Jin’do simultaneously attempted to summon Hakkar and siphon his power.
This failed, and Hakkar assured the victorious heroes that he “would one day return and take care of them.”
To this day, that has not happened.
Some players were disappointed that Hakkar is not mentioned at all in the storyline of Battle for Azeroth. After all, it was confirmed that Hakkar is a Loa, specifically the Loa of Blood. However, he finds no mention in the quests. Although there are numerous inscriptions about various Loa on tablets (a total of 15 different ones), Hakkar is not among them.
The potential for Hakkar is great, especially since his story remains largely unresolved. How a blood god allows another blood god to rise remains to be seen.
Perhaps Blizzard has also decided not to involve Hakkar any further in the game. Maybe we will see him again one day – that would certainly ignite the nostalgia of many fans who still think back to the great plague that laid entire cities low.
