We show you 5 NPCs from World of Warcraft that deserve more attention than they get. Is your favorite one of them?
A game world as large as World of Warcraft is populated by thousands of NPCs. Many of them are simply “extras” or “trash mobs” that have no significant story or relevance to the gameplay.
However, a handful of NPCs in WoW have intriguing backstories that have not been explored further. We want to take a look at these NPCs and find that they are so interesting that they deserve a lot more story!
Silas Darkmoon – The Master of the Darkmoon Faire
Most players have probably met Silas Darkmoon at least once. After all, the friendly gnome is the operator of the Darkmoon Faire and can be found on Darkmoon Island for one week every month. He runs the fair, is responsible for all planning and management, and comes across as a friendly guy. After all, he runs the fair, doesn’t he?
What many may not know is that the Darkmoon Faire has quite a few dark, unresolved secrets. Those who die on Darkmoon Island can see other spirits in ghost form. These are former employees of the fair who have betrayed Silas or wanted to sever ties with the fair.
In general, Darkmoon Island seems to be a mysterious place. It is not marked on any map, and various shipwrecks and creatures on the island suggest that little good has happened here. There is even speculation that the island is no longer on Azeroth but lies in a completely different world.
This dark image of Silas and the fair is also reinforced in the official Warcraft comics. There, the fair travels from town to town and occasionally deals with hecklers and accusations. Silas repeatedly says, “No violence at the fair” and agrees with the locals, even when it is obvious they are lying.
However, the fair is not hesitant to abduct people and bury them alive.
To the panicked pleading of the victim that there is “no violence at the fair,” Silas simply replies with a wild look: “But we are not at the fair anymore, are we?”
What dark powers is Silas Darkmoon dealing with? How powerful has he become through all his machinations? And above all: What exactly is Silas Darkmoon? Is he really a gnome or something much more powerful and darker? What is the fair really working on?
There is a lot of story potential here. And I hope that Blizzard will tell this story before the end of World of Warcraft.
