Blessing of Despair & Lord of the Frenzied Flame (Elden Ring)
In Elden Ring, there are different endings that can be achieved once the prerequisites have been met. Two of these endings stand out particularly, as players can shape the world after triumphing over the Elden Beast according to their own decisions.
Blessing of Despair
The ending “Blessing of Despair” is an alternative version of the standard ending of the game, in which the Accursed decides to usher in a new age – but with cruel consequences. With the round of the curse, the Accursed initiates a doomed future, the sky becomes covered in a reddish pestilence, and the Earthtree begins to decay.
What this exactly means for the future can best be expressed by the Dung Eater himself:
“I have killed countless, defiled countless. And soon the fruits will ripen. Hundreds will be cursed to be reborn, and they will give birth to thousands of cursed children, who in turn will beget tens of thousands more. A few of them will be born just like me, and they will kill, defile, and bless in my stead! Those damned fools. My fate was the grandest, the brightest of all!”
Lord of the Frenzied Flame
The ending “Lord of the Frenzied Flame” shows a different path taken by the Accursed. He has accepted the Frenzied Flame and received a seal to burn away the sins caused by the Greater Will in the Lands Between.
Before approaching the final battle against the broken Marika/Radagon, the Accursed collapses due to intense pain. After a few moments, he can move again, but instead of his head, there is a glowing, burning eye of the Frenzied Flame.
This not only sets his body on fire but also the entire Lands Between.
The Accursed takes on the role of the Lord of Chaos and is tasked with burning away the entire world along with all the failings of the Greater Will – all existing sins, torments, fractures, and curses – to unite everything and everyone in a grand melting pot from which there is no return.
