Black Mesa Incident (Half-Life)
The Black Mesa Incident caused all the events that happened in Half-Life I & II. It all began at the research facility “Black Mesa,” where an experiment with a Xen crystal went completely wrong. The space-time continuum broke down and allowed hostile, extradimensional beings to invade the facility.
Scientists and security personnel were slaughtered within minutes.
In response, the government sends special forces to operate in dangerous environments, “to rescue the remaining personnel” – but their actual mission, similar to the example of Raccoon City, is to eliminate all witnesses. No one is to be saved, only silenced.
Black Mesa is completely destroyed, the military loses control of the situation, and the boundary between Earth and Xen is more open than ever before. Yet, unfortunately, this is still not the end of the situation.
For alongside the alien beings, the portal to Earth also offers an invitation for another extraterrestrial power – the “Combine,” the primary antagonistic force in Half-Life 2. And with that, Earth is absolutely doomed.
The Combine invade through the portal, defeat every military force on Earth in just 7 hours, and take complete control over the planet. With their rule, they enslave the inhabitants of Earth to make them soldiers of their own faction.
And the worst part about it all? So far, there is still no third part of the series, leaving the fate of Earth in this state.
