Umbrella Outbreak (Resident Evil)
The Umbrella Corporation was never “just” a pharmaceutical company, but simultaneously worked on entirely different projects. They developed a virus that could turn people into monsters – the T-Virus, a DNA-altering pathogen that was initially meant to “enhance” human abilities.
In 1998, the virus leaked into the surroundings of the facility and also reached Raccoon City, a medium-sized American town. Infected animals and humans collapsed to transform into mutated monsters.
And how did the Umbrella Corporation react? Did they want to help the residents, to evacuate them from the city and protect them from the dangerous virus they had unleashed? – No. Their mission was to cover up the events and eliminate all potential witnesses.
The city descended into absolute chaos, and when the government finally realized the extent of the catastrophe, Raccoon City was just a once-tried place full of monstrous creatures.
Their only solution? They authorized a nuclear strike on the city, with the aim of wiping out all life. Over 100,000 people lost their lives in the process.
However, this did not mean the end for the Umbrella Corporation and its gene-mutating viruses, only the start of a global biological crisis.
