In the Republic of Magnolia, the state fights against a robotic threat from abroad. But the public is assured: unmanned drones are fighting at the front; there are no casualties. Only the high-ranking generals know that this is false – for at the front, people from “District 86” are sacrificed for racist reasons, stripped of their human rights.
Vladilena Milize is one of the commanders trying to lead her assigned squad of “86ers” in battle so that they can eventually complete their service and be reintegrated into society. A daunting task, as much less in the world is as it initially appears.
Why is 86: EIGHTY SIX suitable? Eighty Six also portrays a rather dark and dystopian world full of racism and exclusion. However, there is an increased focus on exciting battle scenes with manned robots, even though the drama and various character fates never fall short. The anime is always worth a look and frequently shifts the focus of the narrative. There’s definitely no boredom.
Do you know any other series suitable for beginners? Which anime did you personally find your way into this medium? Was it a long series with hundreds of episodes? Or a small, 12-episode season whose characters you immediately grew fond of?
