A Silent Voice
Alternative Names: The Shape of Voice, Koe no Katachi
Genres: Drama
Episodes: 1 (Film)
What is A Silent Voice about? During school, Shouya Ishida kills his boredom mainly through one activity: bullying. The deaf Shouko is continually tormented and humiliated. At least until the school intervenes and Shouya is singled out as the sole culprit by the entire class. After that, he becomes an outsider himself and sinks into depression.
Many years later, he coincidentally meets Shouko and sees this as an opportunity to rectify the mistakes of the past – perhaps to cleanse his own conscience but also to stand up for all the suffering he caused.
Why should A Silent Voice be on the shelf? When it comes to anime films with special significance, most people immediately think of the worldwide success “Your Name.” Exactly for this reason, because you don’t want to be seen as “basic”, you put A Silent Voice on your shelf. The film has a similar (if not even greater) emotional depth and is also perfect for introducing guests to anime who have previously had little contact with it.
If nothing stirs in the notorious balcony scene, you know: These people are lost (and probably not even human) and should be quickly evicted from the apartment.
