Currently, the Trials are not returning in the Season of Dawn, but many Guardians are still drawn to the PvP of Destiny 2. Whether you are hunting for the latest ritual weapons, sweating in the Iron Banner, or just want to enjoy a casual round in quick play, we all know how it feels when things just don’t go right in PvP.
We have gathered 4 general tips from a true Crucible veteran. These will help you in almost any match, regardless of whether you are a complete PvP noob or have many Guardians on your record.
Where do these tips come from? The useful insights originally come from True Vanguard. He has been a well-known PvP expert and streamer since the “Destiny 1” days and is highly regarded by the community for his positive attitude.
The Guardian community often abbreviates his name as “TV”. One of his trademarks is being able to perform well even with seemingly weak loadouts. Unlike most big Destiny streamers, he primarily plays on console (PS4).
Tip 1: “Play your way” – Play your way
What is this tip about? Play the way you want. Don’t let yourself be swayed from your (planned) playstyle. If you find yourself constantly getting taken out by one player and his “Last Word“, don’t feel compelled to switch to that weapon.
Do you want or need to change your loadout during an ongoing game? Then do it very early in the match. Constantly switching, rearranging, and adjusting leads to unsatisfactory results.
Why this is important: According to TV, this breaks your rhythm. A key note here: of course, you should respond to situations and circumstances. You just shouldn’t feel forced into a playstyle or pushed too far out of your comfort zone.
Tip 2: Play with confidence
What is this tip about? You always have to play as if it’s your lobby. Of course, you can’t be the best or dominate every round. In the PvP reality, you often get taken down quite a bit. But you should adopt this mindset.
Guardians who hold back or think from the outset that they can’t do it often really can’t. Tell yourself:
- That’s me!
- I own this lobby!
- My playstyle works!
- These are my weapons and my build!
Why this is important: True Vanguard wants you to say and think that you are the game-changing force. You are important in the ongoing match and have an impact on it.

Playing confidently does not mean acting recklessly. You should break through even when surrounded by enemy Guardians and dare a risky play. Just don’t charge in blindly with the mentality of an immortal god.
Tip 3: Trust your teammates
What is this tip about? Even the PvP pro knows that this tip is sometimes hard to implement. Many players think to themselves, “The blueberries (random teammates are represented as blue dots on the radar) can’t do anything” or “My teammates are the worst players ever”.
But it’s extremely important to stick with your own team every now and then. Don’t always let the lone wolf out. For instance, TV mentions situations where an enemy Super was taken down. Not because he tricked the Super user himself, but because the team helped.
Why this is important: Sometimes, all it takes is just a handful of shots on the energy-filled, one-eyed striker Titan. Combined with brave teammates, the damage is often enough to take out the Super, more than you might think.
Another good example would be: You’re in a “1v1” duel and come out on the losing end. Don’t always go “all in”; it’s okay to retreat and play it safe. The injured opponent can still be taken down by one of your teammates. You get the assists, the team gets a kill, and the opponent is one player short on the battlefield.
Tip 4: Fulfill your objectives
What is this tip about? In the various Crucible modes, there are many different game objectives. Sometimes you need to control zones, sometimes you have to collect emblems, and other times only kills count. TV emphasizes how important it is to work towards the mission objective.
It rarely pays off to go berserk, collecting kill after kill while completely ignoring the zones. You would need to get more than double the kills compared to the opponent to help your team win.
Don’t use your powerful Super as soon as it’s available. Wait until you have the upper hand in control and earn double points per kill.
Why this is important: Imagine this situation: you rack up a bunch of kills but still lose. Only because you didn’t take 10 seconds to briefly capture zone B with your team.
It’s much more satisfying when at the end of the match, Lord Shaxx roars, “You won” and you contributed to that victory.
