Those who dare to enter the multiplayer of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare usually play to win. This is often not so easy. We show you three quick tips that will bring victory a little closer.
What are these tips? Our tips consist of fundamental advice that is actually quite obvious but often overlooked. They are tips that should help both beginners and veterans in every round.
From the author’s experience of several dozen hours in the various multiplayer modes, these things are often ignored. Yet, they are small changes that would significantly ease achieving victory.
Tip 1: Destroy Killstreaks, don’t ignore them
What are Killstreaks? The various Killstreaks in Modern Warfare are rewards for players when they take down a certain number of enemies without dying (or reach points with the corresponding perk).
Killstreaks have a significant impact on the game and are often devices that are on the map for a while, such as:
- the personal radar and UAVs
- VTOLs
- support helicopters
- Wheelsons or tanks
How do I destroy Killstreaks? Most Killstreaks can withstand quite a bit but can be easily destroyed with the right weapons. For instance, a VTOL can take only a few magazines of full metal jacket rounds. If three players focus on it, it will only be a problem for a few seconds.
Equipment and special weapons also help. The proximity mine deals increased damage to vehicles. Rocket launchers easily take down radars or helicopters. We have introduced you to the strongest launchers and weapons here.
Why is this important? Especially passive Killstreaks like the support helicopter or the VTOL can determine victory and defeat on many maps. They are absolutely deadly and secure a large area without players needing to do anything about it.
Many players prefer to hide from them rather than destroy them. This way, they lose valuable time or points, become easy targets to be tracked down, and thus approach defeat.
2. Ensure reconnaissance and secure areas
What does this mean? In every shooter, knowing where the enemy is is a significant advantage. Gathering this information is called “reconnaissance.” If you know what the enemy is planning without him knowing anything about you, you are likely to win the fight.
It is also important to ensure that areas you move into are always secured. If an enemy is hiding and your entire team runs past him, he can easily take you all out from behind, as no one noticed him.
How do I properly recon? The most important tool for reconnaissance is probably the UAV (drone). It periodically provides information about where enemies are located. The personal radar also serves this function but is somewhat easier to destroy.
With these Killstreaks, enemies are displayed on the minimap. It also helps to have a sniper covering you, providing information. This is particularly useful on the large maps of Ground War.
How do I secure areas? Securing areas is somewhat more complicated because it’s also more dangerous. When you enter a new area, such as a building, you should quickly and thoroughly scan every corner for enemies.
It’s best to proceed as a team and communicate who is watching which direction and securing which room. You don’t have to be as thorough as in the campaign, but a camper should not be behind you.
Communication is crucial in both methods: Share the info with your teammates, ideally via voice, and move closer to victory.
3. Adapt your playstyle, don’t be stubborn
What does “adapt playstyle” mean? If you are outmatched by the enemies, it doesn’t necessarily mean that their team is made up of professionals. It’s very likely that you are simply reacting incorrectly to a situation and rigidly focusing on one playstyle.
If, for example, it isn’t helping to hide together in an area because you’re constantly being overrun, you shouldn’t just continue trying to camp there. Instead, try to break through the enemy lines.
Why is this important? Stubbornness is detrimental in most shooters, and even more so in a tactical shooter like Modern Warfare. Good players adapt to new situations, evaluate them, and respond accordingly.
You should also proceed this way if you want to win. If you notice something isn’t working, change it. Generally, it doesn’t help to just keep trying over and over. A good example of this is shown in a clip where a player cleverly deals with stubborn campers.
How do I properly adapt my style? This depends on the situation. Generally, however, if a strategy isn’t working, try something different – no matter what. It can’t get worse than a defeat anyway.
If you’re running into an enemy and constantly being pushed back, try to play more cautiously and gather more reconnaissance. If the enemies are overwhelming you, try to spread out and take them out individually or even advance together.
Sometimes it even helps to just switch weapons. Why not try weapons that nobody would normally use?
If you feel that none of this helps, check your options. The reason for your constant defeats might also be in the details:
