Marvel’s Avengers
What kind of game is this? In Marvel’s Avengers, you take on the role of a superhero fighting against the enemy faction A.I.M. However, you lost a lot of reputation after a catastrophe occurred on A-Day that devastated the city.
The game offers a single-player campaign and many different multiplayer contents that you can tackle with 3 friends or alone with NPCs. It also emphasizes action-packed and dynamic battles.
You can continuously improve your superhero with skill trees and new equipment. While the campaign mainly focuses on story, in the endgame, there are repeatable and challenging missions awaiting you.
Why was I so disappointed? A superhero game with the Marvel license and multiplayer naturally caught my attention, especially since there were hardly any interesting multiplayer titles released this year other than Call of Duty.
But with great hope also came great disappointment. Marvel’s Avengers launched with numerous bugs, limited content, an imprecise combat system, and, above all, loot problems. And the debate over the exclusive Spider-Man on PlayStation was also there.
The colleagues from GameStar wrote in their review that Marvel’s Avengers could have been a much better game had they not opted for linear levels and unlock spirals. I would agree with that.
Also, the publisher Square Enix admitted that the action game did not meet expectations and led to millions in losses. On Steam, the title hardly reaches 1,000 players, which now leads to further problems in the endgame. Without teammates, some missions are hardly doable.
After the first beta, I was already skeptical about Marvel’s Avengers. But I have not touched the game since mid-October. Even though further superheroes and new updates are planned for 2021, I am skeptical whether Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix can still turn things around.
In fact, the MMOs and online games that we can recommend to you in 2020 are mainly older titles that have been around for several years. Here we reveal which games those are:
