Warcraft 3 Reforged
What kind of game is this? Warcraft 3 is a real-time strategy game from Blizzard and is one of the most popular games in the genre. This is due in part to the game itself, which tells an exciting story in single-player mode and hosted major tournaments in multiplayer at release.
On the other hand, many well-known games today evolved from Warcraft 3. In addition to the MMORPG World of Warcraft, which was developed by Blizzard as a successor, MOBAs like Dota 2 or League of Legends are also based on a mod for WC3. It is called DotA (Defense of the Ancients).
In January 2020, Blizzard released Warcraft 3 Reforged, a remaster of the classic.
Why was I so disappointed? Warcraft 3 was one of the first games I played online with friends in my youth. Therefore, I found a remaster that graphically adjusts the game and could make it more interesting for tournaments quite exciting.
Warcraft 3 Reforged was originally supposed to be released in 2019 but was delayed to January 2020. However, despite the delay, the release went disastrously.
Immediately at launch, important multiplayer content such as leaderboards, clan support, and the ability to create custom tournaments were missing. Because all WC3 versions had to be updated to patch 1.32, these contents were suddenly missing for every player. It was a nightmare for all multiplayer fans.
Also, the custom maps and modes that players had developed over the years suddenly stopped working. That also affected me, as I enjoyed playing a round of Kodo Tag with friends.
But even aside from multiplayer, Reforged was not a masterpiece. There were performance issues, promised graphic updates were missing, and some cutscenes were completely absent. Even single-player fans could not enjoy the update.
Not only for me, but Warcraft 3 Reforged was an absolute disaster. On Metacritic, the game currently has a user score of 0.6 out of 10 – with over 30,000 ratings.
