Fans behind the universe of Game of Thrones have been waiting for years for the continuation of the novels, but soon at least fans of the series can look forward to new stories from Westeros. In addition to House of the Dragon, another series is set to start.
Which series is it about? Fans of the novel series A Song of Ice and Fire have been waiting since 2011 for the novel The Winds of Winter. Even George R.R. Martin is unsure if he will ever finish the series. However, fans of the fantasy universe will still be served with new series.
As it was announced recently, a new prequel series titled A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms is set to premiere in January 2026 (via Deadline). But that is not the only series to look forward to.

A new series and a new season show the story before Game of Thrones
What is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms about? The series is based on the three Hedge Knight novellas by George R.R. Martin, which can be found in Germany under the title Der Heckenritter von Westeros: Das Urteil der Sieben

The series takes place before Game of Thrones, but 100 years after the events of House of the Dragon. The focus of the series is on the knight Ser Duncan and his squire Ei
, who travel through the world of Westeros and develop a friendship along the way. As we know from the universe, Ei

What else can fans of Game of Thrones look forward to? As Casey Bloys, the CEO of HBO, revealed to the magazine Deadline, the 3rd season of House of the Dragon is expected to be released in 2026. He does not mention a specific date, but expects that the season will start shortly after the 2026 Emmy window closes, which ends on May 31, 2026.
When looking at the IMDB ratings of the 2nd season of House of the Dragon, not all viewers were thrilled. The 2nd season premiered on June 16, 2024, and the 8th and final episode aired on August 4. After nearly 2 years, the series is set to return.
In the future, another series could come. In 2024, the Hollywood Reporter reported that a direct prequel to House of the Dragon is in development. It will focus on Aegon Targaryen and how he brutally conquered Westeros.
Later in 2024, the alleged author of this series, Mattson Tomlin, who is also working on The Batman Part 2, specified the information (via Entertainment Weekly). He mentioned that the planned spin-off is in quite an early stage of development.
In July 2025, Mattson Tomlin confirmed on x.com that he has already worked a lot on the script for the series. There is currently no official information on possible filming or release dates.
As part of the project, he is also supposed to collaborate with George R.R. Martin. The series is expected to be based on chapters from the book Fire & Blood
