Two men found a hobby and wanted to invest in cryptocurrencies together. Due to a mistake, they suddenly became very rich as the platform paid them a million-dollar amount due to an error.

Transfer error leads to 10 million US dollars in the wrong account
How did the two proceed? The two men had the idea to open an account at Crypto.com and deposited 100 dollars. However, the platform rejected the payment because he was using his wife’s account, and thus the details did not match.
Subsequently, he requested a refund of the 100 dollars. But instead of transferring him 100 dollars, the platform paid him an amount of 10.5 million US dollars.
What happened next? The two individuals did not think to report the platform’s error. Instead, they began investing the money in various things: real estate, art, furniture, and other valuable items. The wife was also involved, hiding a few million in another account.
But after a few months, in December 2021, the platform realized that they had made a mistake.
How did the error occur? Allegedly, the employee who was supposed to process the refund confused the amount with the account number. That is why 10.5 million dollars were transferred instead of 100 dollars.
Couple must repay money and face punishment
How did the case end? The platform sued the three individuals and was ultimately right. The Supreme Court decided:
- The money was used fraudulently, and the court seized the couple’s assets to compensate the platform.
- The husband was sentenced to 18 months of community service.
- His wife must serve 200 days in prison.
- The third person was provisionally summoned for theft. The verdict is still pending.
