Mistake 10: Using Ange and her exchange service
Initially Faustus and now Ange. These NPCs are essential for their financial services, and as I mentioned earlier, when used properly, they can provide you with a heap of currencies.
I too struggle after 500 hours in PoE to know which items to sell and which not to. However, sooner or later, you must acquire plenty of Chaos, Exalts, or Divs if you want to defeat the Uber bosses.
But since I enjoy farming and hoarding many other items in my stash, I use Ange’s exchange service. This gives me currencies that I actually need in exchange for those I don’t need. It’s very convenient if you want to familiarize yourself with trading and the meta. Just ensure you have enough gold because even the good Ange wants to make a profit from your trade.
Mistake 11: Avoiding guilds because exiles are loners
Fittingly to mistake 9, you should look for a guild over time. A guild offers many advantages that benefit you as a newcomer. Primarily, it’s about exchanging knowledge with other players who have accumulated thousands of hours in Wraeclast.
They can help you with questions and explain mechanics you might have missed or not understood. They usually also offer assistance in defeating bosses. A well-equipped guild also has a hideout and a guild stash.
In the hideout, you can meet with other players and team up or receive items that other exiles do not need. So with a guild, you have at least good conditions right from the start not to give up when everything becomes too much for you.
Mistake 12: Being afraid of making a mistake
As a newcomer, you are constantly haunted by the fear of doing something wrong, but don’t be too hard on yourself. You will make mistakes, and that’s a good thing because without them you cannot learn to improve.
When it comes to builds: If you want to experiment, it can be costly as mentioned, but you don’t have to spend anything to plan your build. With Path of Building 2, an open-source software, you can map your build and then make changes and see what effect they have. Here, you can do anything you want without any cost.
As for trading, there are price-check software like Exile Exchange 2. These help you compare your items and their perks with similar products on the market and price them according to their value. That way, you won’t be ripped off by scalpers.
Path of Exile is definitely a game on its own, and if you want to get good, you must invest a lot of time. But I can reassure you, there are also players with thousands of hours who understand only half of what makes PoE what it is.
So take your time, don’t rush, and enjoy the game in all its facets. Endgame is secondary; what makes the ARPG special is rather the journey to it. Do you know of any common mistakes newcomers make?
