For the Minecraft project Craft Attack 13, 100 content creators have teamed up to play live on Twitch. However, the fun has been interrupted since the weekend, as some streamers’ accounts have been banned.
Who was banned? Several Twitch streamers have been affected in Craft Attack 13, who can no longer play with their accounts: Marcel “Nooreax”, Hugo “LetsHugo” Godert, Bastian “BastiGHG”, and most recently Dennis “SparkofPhoenix”.
This is not a server ban, as LetsHugo already experienced, but an account suspension from Mojang itself. With the account, the Twitch streamers cannot participate in Craft Attack 13 for the next few days. The alleged reason for the suspension: hate speech or discrimination.
Hate speech and discrimination are a clear reason for Mojang to suspend a Minecraft account. This is stated on their website help.minecraft.net.
Why were BastiGHG, Nooreax and LetsHugo banned?
Why were the Twitch streamers banned? The exact reason or what lies behind it remains unclear for now.
For an account suspension, the respective account must be reported. However, the server for Craft Attack 13 is a private server and not a public one.
This means that participants from the Craft Attack 13 project must have reported the accounts, and they must have been banned by the admin.
This procedure is also described by the Minecraft Help Center. In such cases, one should contact the admin (source: help.minecraft.net).
There is a suspicion that SparkofPhoenix elaborated on, suggesting that it could be an exploit. To suspend a Minecraft account, it must be reported with a reason. Both players would need to be together on a server; otherwise, an account cannot be reported.
However, the suspected exploit is said to allow reporting an account even if there has been no prior contact with it.
The incident has also made it to the Subreddit r/Minecraft, where the situation is being discussed.
What happens next? The affected Twitch streamers reported that they are already working on a solution. Nooreax, for example, announced that he would like to continue playing with a second account, which he has now also done. Otherwise, the streamers will have to endure the suspension for the time being.
How the situation regarding the bans will continue and when the affected Twitch streamers will be able to play again remains uncertain for now. Trymacs is also participating in Craft Attack 13. He has his own way of playing Minecraft, as while Twitch streamers build bases and have adventures, Trymacs pretends to play a different game in the Minecraft project.
