To ensure a successful start in WoW: Battle for Azeroth, there are a few things to keep in mind. With these 10 tips, everything will go smoothly!
In a few hours, Battle for Azeroth will start and hundreds of thousands of players will flood into the new areas of World of Warcraft. To keep a cool head while leveling in Kul Tiras and Zandalar and to proceed as effectively as possible, the YouTuber Hazel from the Hazelnuttygames channel has compiled some tips.

1. Don’t get stuck on complicated quests
Some quests in World of Warcraft are a bit more complicated or simply buggy at the launch of an expansion. Can’t find an NPC, an item is unusable, or there’s another problem? Ask for help in chat; if no one knows the answer, skip the quest for now and come back later. There are alternative quest hubs in almost all areas to spend your time.
2. Choose a gathering profession
If you haven’t chosen a profession yet, you should simply choose the gathering professions Herbalism and Mining. Because mining ores also grants experience points and the resources will certainly be needed in the coming weeks. This way, you’ll earn extra XP and some gold in the auction house!
3. Dismantle items
When you find green items in Battle for Azeroth, whether as random drops or quest rewards, you should not sell them to the vendor. Instead, save them up and bring them to the Scrap-O-Matic in your respective capital city to gain valuable resources for crafting!
4. The choice of Azerite traits
Thanks to the Heart of Azeroth, you can periodically unlock various abilities (“traits”) in your equipment. Don’t worry too much about this during the leveling phase. Just choose traits that make sense while leveling – such as self-healing or increased damage. You can change the selected traits later, and usually, you’ll replace your armor anyway when you reach level 120.
5. Utilize War Mode
Especially at the start, most players will be questing on their continent – Horde players in Zandalar and Alliance players in Kul Tiras. The risk of encountering enemy players there is still low. Use this and activate War Mode! This way, you’ll receive 10% additional experience points while questing.
6. Follow the War Campaign
Every few levels, you will receive new quests for the “War Campaign” in your faction’s capital. This is reminiscent of the Order campaign from Legion and is essential to unlock some features, such as Island Expeditions. Whether you complete them during leveling or only at max level is up to you.
But beware: The War Campaign will take you to the enemy continent. Consider whether you still want to have War Mode activated there.
7. Skip Rare Mobs if you’re in a hurry
There are again numerous special enemies in Battle for Azeroth that are marked with a star on the minimap. Alone, these enemies can be quite overwhelming, and the reward is low, especially the experience points. If a foe seems too tough for you, then just skip them. You can always return later.
8. Use the “Remarkable Garnet”
Jewelers can craft an interesting new gemstone. They can cut the gem “Garnet” into a “Remarkable Garnet.” Once integrated into the armor, this gem grants 5% additional experience points! So if you know a jeweler, you can secure a little bonus.
9. Guild Banners for Bonus XP
If you are a member of a guild, you should also acquire the guild banners from the guild vendor. Because the “Battle Standard of Cooperation” grants all guild members within 100 meters 15% additional experience points for killing monsters for a few minutes. If you have to wipe everything for a quest anyway, you can take this bonus!
10. Know the Portal Locations!
Portals are important for quickly getting to different locations in World of Warcraft.
- Alliance players can find their portals in Boralus around the “Trade Wind Market” fountain.
- Horde players, on the other hand, can find their portals in Dazar’alor in the western chamber in “The Great Seal.”
If you want to go back to the islands from Azeroth, you can also find portals in the old world.
- Alliance players can teleport from the Mage Tower in Stormwind to Boralus.
- Horde players go into the Shadow Rift from Orgrimmar to return to Dazar’alor.
