In July 2023, an exciting announcement circulated: Genre veteran Jack Emmert (City of Heroes, Star Trek Online, Neverwinter) is working with his studio Jackalyptic, founded in 2022, on a new MMORPG for Warhammer. This made sense. After all, Warhammer Online had been offline since 2013. Many fans think that it went offline far too early.

However, very little is known about the new Warhammer MMORPG to this day. It was supposed to be developed for PC and consoles in Unreal Engine 5 and have a strong PvE focus. Initial presentations reportedly received positive feedback.
However, these took place behind closed doors. A trailer or concept drawings were never shared with the public. We do not even know for sure which of the Warhammer universes this MMORPG was to take place in.

What is clear is that the funding came from NetEase. However, the Chinese corporation has been on a cost-cutting spree since late 2024, particularly cutting investments in Western projects.
