Thanos is probably not a very good family person. Not only do Gamora and Nebula want their (adoptive) father dead, but his son Thane is also not particularly proud of him. In his own solo series, Thanos had to confront his son, who became the host of the Phoenix Force, a powerful entity, thanks to Lady Death.
He only wants to warn his son for now. He should not trust Death, but Thane seems to have already been manipulated. With a powerful attack, he sends his father away but does not kill him in the process. He gives him a much worse fate: He sends him to a destroyed place where he must survive without his powers, like a mere mortal
.
Sitting on his father’s throne, he plans with Death how things will proceed. She is already manipulating him and explains that the whole universe is now against him as he has become so powerful.
