Pathfinder: Kingmaker
The rules of Pathfinder are based on the 3.5 rules of DnD, and you can notice this in many places. Similar to Pillars of Eternity, Pathfinder: Kingmaker started as a Kickstarter campaign by Owlcat Games and was inspired by games like Baldur’s Gate, Fallout 1 + 2, and Arcanum. The game is based on the campaign series of Pathfinder.
In Kingmaker, you undertake the steep career of a baron who works his way up to the rank of king while managing an entire kingdom on the side. So, while you still have adventures outside your residence, as is fitting for a proper campaign.
Pathfinder: Kingmaker offers a classic adventure experience for anyone who also likes to rule. Here, you can do both. While it is not quite as strategic as one might imagine, it still gives the feeling of expanding your kingdom. You can also choose whether to fight in a classic turn-based or real-time format.
The game is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Steam.
Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous
The big quasi-brother of Kingmaker is Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. This title takes everything that Kingmaker did so well a step further and takes you into the similarly named campaign series Wrath of the Righteous.
Here, everything revolves around your alignment. Whether angel, demon, lich, fairy, or powerful necromancer, Wrath of the Righteous gives you the opportunity to become whatever you want, like few other role-playing games. You can also play wickedly or be the golden redeemer – you literally decide the fate of the world.
You can also choose whether to fight in a turn-based or real-time manner. On your journey, you have the option of more than 10 companions, from which you can take 5 in your group simultaneously.
You can experience Wrath of the Righteous on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Steam.
Solasta: Crown of the Magister
In Solasta: Crown of the Magister, you find a true hybrid. The game is based on the rules of Dungeons & Dragons, but takes place in the game’s own world of Solasta. You take control of a group of 4 characters that you can completely create yourself.
The group of four adventurers meets in a tavern and embarks on a journey for a council of all nations to search for magical and historical artifacts of a fallen empire. Along the way, they discover a conspiracy from ancient and forgotten enemies of humanity and find a mysterious crown. A classic DnD campaign setting, therefore.
What is particularly cool about Solasta, however, is the ability to create your campaigns or play those crafted by other players. Individual dungeons can also be built or explored.
Solasta: Crown of the Magister is available for PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, GeForce Now, and Steam.
Next up on page 3 are Icewind Dale, Planescape: Torment, Neverwinter Nights, and the Shadowrun Trilogy.
