For most, this monster is remembered as the clown Pennywise, but it should not be forgotten that it can take on any form. The insidious part of It is that it knows people’s fears and reacts completely individually to them. However, not in a good way: It shamelessly exploits fear and embodies it in the form of different monsters.
In the story about the seven children from the town of Derry, these include a leper, a werewolf, a giant bird, or a blood fountain, among others. And of course, It prominently appears as Pennywise. In this form, the character continues to evoke fear of clowns to this day, and it’s no wonder: this clown has nothing lovable about him; he is a terrible monster that takes sadistic pleasure in feeding on people’s fears.
Bonus: The Overlook Hotel
A small bonus ranking: The Overlook Hotel from “The Shining” is actually the greatest monster in Stephen King’s novel. It brings out the worst in the people who stay there, turning some into murderers and also causing Jack Torrance to turn against his wife and child to kill them. Unlike in the film adaptation by Stanley Kubrick, the hotel in the book is the actual monster, not the writer Jack.
