Mongul

Sometimes, a trick is enough to weaken Superman. Such was the case with Mongul, a warlord who was a tough opponent. He sent Superman a birthday gift containing a plant. Unaware, he opened the package, causing the plant to latch onto his chest, granting him surreal visions.
This would have put Superman out of commission already. He was only saved because Wonder Woman, Batman, and Robin confronted the dastardly Mongul. Batman removed the plant from Superman’s chest but then got afflicted himself.
Superman charged at Mongul but was severely weakened and could not overpower his opponent. On the contrary: Mongul severely beat the man of steel and was only interrupted by the brave intervention of Robin, who hurled the toxic plant at the villain, taking him out of commission. Nevertheless, without his allies, Superman would have been finished.
