- Defeated Superman in: “Superman: Beyond Earth” (2019)
One of Superman’s strongest opponents has often fought against him and has frequently prevailed. One example is the encounter in “Superman: Beyond Earth”. This is less about a classic 1:1 fight and more about tactical maneuvering.
Superman is searching for a girl named Alice when he lands with Darkseid and asks for information. Darkseid agrees but demands that Superman fulfill a request of his own. The man of steel is to kill an innocent. Since this contradicts his morals, he returns to Darkseid and claims he has committed the murder. Darkseid accuses him of lying.
Superman then responds that he has broken his oath either way: either he has killed and betrayed himself, or he has not honored the deal with Darkseid. He admits his defeat and ultimately receives the information about Alice’s whereabouts. However, Superman emerges from the encounter morally broken and loses this battle on a spiritual level.
